Krzyż Kawalerski Orderu Zasługi Rzeczypospolitej Polskiej

The Knight’s Cross of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Poland is a state distinction awarded to individuals and institutions for outstanding contributions to international cooperation and for strengthening Poland’s relations with other countries. It is conferred by the President of the Republic of Poland and recognizes achievements in cultural, educational, scientific, and public activities carried out beyond Poland’s borders. Receiving this honor reflects meaningful and lasting contributions to promoting Polish culture and fostering international understanding.

Nagroda Czlowieka Roku

For their outstanding contributions to the Polish community, the title of Person of the Year 2024 by Dziennik Związkowy was awarded to the musical couple Barbara Bilszta and Wojciech Niewrzoł, the Executive Director and Artistic Director of the Paderewski Symphony Orchestra (PaSO). PaSO holds a unique place on the global cultural map as the only professional orchestra operating outside of Poland dedicated exclusively to the promotion of Polish music.

Under their leadership, the orchestra has grown into a dynamic cultural institution, presenting high-level artistic programs while serving as an ambassador of Polish heritage abroad. Through carefully curated performances, collaborations, and community engagement, Bilszta and Niewrzoł have helped elevate the visibility of Polish composers and musical traditions within the international arts landscape.

In addition to their work with the orchestra, they also lead the highly regarded Academy of Music, an educational institution operating under the orchestra’s patronage. The Academy plays a vital role in nurturing young talent, offering rigorous training, and instilling a deep appreciation for music among students of diverse backgrounds. Together, their artistic vision and dedication to education continue to strengthen cultural ties, inspire future generations, and reinforce the presence of Polish culture within the global community.

Zasłużony Kulturze Gloria Artis

The “Zasłużony Kulturze Gloria Artis” Medal (Latin: Glory to Art) is one of Poland’s highest cultural honors, awarded by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage to individuals and institutions for outstanding contributions to artistic excellence, cultural activity, and the preservation of national heritage.

The “Zasłużony dla Kultury Polskiej” Medal is a distinguished honor awarded to individuals and institutions that have demonstrated exceptional commitment to the creation, promotion, and preservation of Polish culture. It recognizes meaningful contributions to artistic development, cultural initiatives, and efforts that strengthen cultural identity both in Poland and abroad. The medal is conferred by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage to those whose work has had a lasting impact on the enrichment and continuity of Polish cultural life. As an official state distinction, it reflects national recognition of dedication to advancing and safeguarding Poland’s cultural heritage.

Receiving this distinction affirms PaSO’s role as a leading cultural institution and highlights its meaningful impact on both the Polish-American community and the broader cultural landscape.
