What began as a family concert became something greater, an evening of music that not only moved audiences, but also helped fund scholarships and support future musicians.
Nine children. Nine musicians. One family on the edge of losing the opportunity to continue their musical education.
The Szymanski family concert, held on March 22, was not just a performance. It was a turning point. Despite years of discipline, talent, and relentless hard work, their parents could no longer afford to support the musical training of their 8 children still attending The Paderewski Academy of Music. All 9 of the Szymanski children are exceptionally musically talented, with the eldest son having already graduated from our program. What stood in front of the children was not a lack of ability, but a lack of resources. In response, the Paderewski Academy of Music stepped in and brought the community together, organizing a concert that would give these young musicians a chance to continue their journey.
The response was immediate and overwhelming. The concert sold out almost instantly. In response, a second performance was added and it too sold out just as quickly. Both evenings ended in standing ovations, not just for the level of talent on stage, but for what it represented. Every note carried the weight of sacrifice, persistence, and hope. This was more than music. It was a community showing up when it mattered most. One moment, however, changed everything. Among those in attendance was Joanna Dobecka, who was deeply moved by what she witnessed. In an extraordinary act of generosity, she chose to fund an entire year of music education for all 8 children on behalf of Dr. Jadwiga Roguska- Kyts. In a single decision, uncertainty turned into opportunity.
What seemed to be an end to their musical journeys became something far greater, an example of how the community will come together to help a family in need. The Szymanski Concert proved that when people come together, music can do more than inspire. It can change lives.
There are many more families just like the Szymanski's. If you would like to make a difference in the lives of our future musicians, please consider donating to The Paderewski Academy of Music's scholarship fund HERE.
